Frank Batten College of Engineering and Technology

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering

On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Department, I would like to welcome you to our website. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) strives to provide the highest quality engineering education at the undergraduate and graduate levels and to engage in scholarly research at the forefront of Electrical and Computer Engineering. The ECE Department is one of the largest in the College of Engineering with a strong undergraduate program providing a high-quality and broad-based education that prepares graduates for successful professional careers and a lifetime of learning. The Department offers ABET accredited baccalaureate degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. In our graduate program, the Department offers ME and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering, and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering. The ME program is professionally oriented and suitable for students interested in entering the job market, whereas the MS program is more research oriented and is suited for students interested in pursuing PhD. Besides the strong academic programs, the Department has an excellent tradition of funded research and scholarly publications. The ECE department is consistently ranked amongst the top 30 by NSF based on research expenditure. The department is home to the world renowned center for bioelectrics, where our faculty members are working on innovative ways to use pulsed electric fields to cure cancers. The faculty in the Applied Technology Center (ARC) are engaged in cutting edge research on materials and devices. The Department also has a strong presence in the very successful Virginia Modeling and Simulation Center (VMASC). In addition to the centers, we have other very successful laboratories which are directed by individuals or group of faculty members. This website has detailed information on the research and teaching activities of members of the Department. In addition you will find valuable information on our academic programs and course offerings. I invite you to learn more about us, and please feel free to contact any faculty member if you have questions about our research or academic programs. Best wishes as you pursue your educational goals.
